It may be caused by bacteria or viruses. Bacterial meningitis is rarer but can be very serious.<\/p><p>It is spread through droplet infection; i.e. sneezing, coughing or kissing as the bacteria or virus is usually carried in the nose.<\/p><p class=\"western\">Some cases can lead to sepsis, which is life-threatening. that they have had 2 doses of MMR vaccine, as measles and mumps outbreaks can occur in university settings.<\/li><li>Students who spend most of the year at their university address should register
