Confidentiality

Our role is to provide independent, impartial and objective advice regarding Occupational Health matters to yourself and your employer.

The Occupational Health service acts independently of your employer, this may be in cases of pre-employment, sickness absence, health surveillance, or general advice.

During the course of managing an Occupational Health case we may discuss your medical history and current condition, and may need to obtain (with your consent) information from your GP or Consultants you have or are currently seeing. Any medical information provided to the Occupational Health service or any medical advice given to you is confidential. Occupational Health may provide advice to your employer regarding your fitness to work however this will be in general terms and will not contain medical details without your consent.

Information relating to your case will be recorded electronically in our management system. Your medical details are held securely and are available only to the Occupational Health service. Information provided by/to your employer is not deemed part of your medical record.

Human Resources/your manager may be able to view the case track for your case online via the management system. This means that they can view the actions relating to your case, the main reason for your referral, the start of the case, the end of the case and management information and reports; according to their access rights. This helps to ensure that the relevant people know the status of your case and that it is managed in a timely and effective manner.

The Occupational Health service will provide periodic reports on cases to your manager/employer to help improve absence, improve employee health etc. These reports will contain anonymised data relating to the medical reasons for absence, e.g. musculoskeletal, lower back etc. but will not be identifiable to an individual.
