“When it’s cold and grey outside, getting people together to connect over a warming cuppa helps to make us feel better and manage the ups and downs of life.

This winter, Samaritans is encouraging people to have a ‘Brew Monday’ event to brighten up a Monday or any other day that suits them. Getting together to talk, to ask someone how they are and to listen, is a simple thing that can make a big difference.

Brew Monday will be launching on 20 January, the third Monday in January, which is usually known as ‘Blue Monday’. Samaritans will be turning this day on its head and into something positive by encouraging people to get together with family, friends or colleagues over a warming brew.

Throughout the day, Samaritans volunteers will be at train stations and in town centres across the country, handing out thousands of tea bags to commuters and people passing by so they can share a cup of tea with someone they care about.

You can hold your own Brew Monday event at work, at home, wherever you like. Any Monday this January or February, or anytime that’s good for you. Use your get-together to raise money for Samaritans, so someone having a tough time has somewhere to turn if they need to talk.

Sign up online to receive a free Brew Monday fundraising kit, which includes everything you need to hold your own get-together: samaritans.org/brewmonday– Samaritans

Samaritans are an organisation that work to answer the phone to anyone who needs to talk, not only in a crisis but to prevent a crisis. Samaritans work to be there day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cop, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure offering listening and support to people and communities in time of need.

Just £5 for Samaritans to be able to answer a call from any struggling person can make such a big difference to those who may be feeling alone and unable to cope. It could save a life.

Visit the Samaritans website for more information on the wonderful work they do and to download your fundraising kit for your own Brew Monday in which you will receive:

  • Posters for inviting people if you’re doing it at work or in the community.
  • Lots of ideas to make raising money fun!
  • Our ‘Little tips’ leaflets are a nice talking point to have at your event.
  • No cash on the day? People can text Brew5 to 70507 to give £5.

So why not gather some friendly faces and sit down for a cuppa and a slice of cake to share some company and potentially raise some money. You can hold your Brew Monday wherever you like, you local. town hall, your living room or your workplace and share the warmth.
